Deebo Samuel doesn’t like the Rams. Players in Los Angeles don’t like the 49ers, either. Aaron Donald even said last year, “I really dislike them.” It’s the nature of a rivalry, being in the same division and playing at least twice a year.
But the Rams are no longer Samuel’s most hated team. His reasoning might anger fans, though.
In an interview with Complex, Samuel explained that the Eagles – who beat the 49ers in the NFC title game last season – are now the team he hates most.
“I mean hey man, we done wiped the Rams so many times,” Samuel said. “All the trash talk coming from the Eagles fan base and the players, you just get tired of that.”
Shots fired. Granted, the Rams have only beaten the 49ers once since the 2019 season, losing eight of their last nine meetings. But what’s important is they won the biggest matchup of all: the NFC Championship Game in January of 2022.
That propelled the Rams to the Super Bowl, where they eventually beat the Bengals and were crowned champions of the NFL. There’s no denying the 49ers have had the Rams’ number, but that one win 15 months ago makes all the difference.
Even with the Rams entering a rebuild, their rivalry with the 49ers hasn’t lost any of the allure in the NFC West. They’re still bitter rivals and should play a couple of competitive games in 2023.
