The Rams will use their third kicker of the season on Monday night against the Buccaneers after Samuel Sloman was cut and Kai Forbath injured his ankle in Week 10.
Sean McVay opted not to reveal which kicker the team chose when asked about it on Saturday, but we now have a good indication of who it’ll be. It appears the Rams will go with Matt Gay on Monday night against his former team.
According to the official transaction report, the Rams only elevated J.R. Reed from the practice squad for tonight’s game. Austin MacGinnis is currently on the practice squad and in order for him to play, he’d need to be elevated to the active roster for Week 11.
Since that hasn’t happened, and Gay is on the 53-man squad as of Saturday, the Rams will go with the second-year kicker on Monday night.
Gay was a fifth-round pick by the Buccaneers last year but simply didn’t work out. He missed eight of his 35 field goal attempts and missed another five PATs on 48 attempts, leading the Bucs to make a change.
He’ll try to prove them wrong Monday night, and hopefully he performs better than the Rams’ other kickers have this season. Los Angeles has missed at least one kick in eight of nine games.
