Florida baseball’s opening weekend didn’t go exactly as planned.
After a shocking loss to St. John’s on Friday night to start the season, inclement weather forced the Orange and Blue to cancel the final two games in the series. It’s the first time in 17 seasons under head coach Kevin O’Sullivan that the Gators have failed to record a win on opening weekend.
“We’ll just have to put this one behind us,” O’Sullivan said Friday night. “We’re not used to losing on opening nights.”
While the games against St. John’s won’t be rescheduled, NCAA rules allow teams to add games to the schedule. Two presumed wins over St. John’s would likely have little effect on Florida’s pursuit of a NCAA Tournament spot.
Florida has open midweek dates at the end of April and the beginning of May ahead of the Tennessee and Georgia series.
The Gators travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to visit the Ospreys on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. before hosting UNF in Gainesville on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m.
