Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers among top free-agent additions through Week 2

The Raiders did not have Jakobi Meyers in Week 2 and his absence was noticeable. The leading receiver from Week 1 suffered a concussion in his first game with the team and was not able to play against the Bills.

That was a major loss for the Raiders as they just couldn’t create any type of offense without him. He’s only been on the field in one game so far, but his importance can’t be overstated.

In a recent article by Pro Football Focus, they took a look at a few free-agent additions that have performed well with their new teams through Week 2. That list included Meyers, who was the top receiver on the open market. Here is a snippet of what the site had to say about the No. 2 receiver for the Patriots:

It’s unfortunate we didn’t get to see Meyers in Week 2 after a violent hit from Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson landed him in the concussion protocol, but he was quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s go-to target in a Week 1 win at the Denver Broncos.

Meyers hauled in nine receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns, and he notably lined up out wide on 83% of his total snaps after playing in the slot roughly two-thirds of the time with the New England Patriots. His ability to win no matter his alignment is a nice value add, and he had two contested catches to go along with a forced missed tackle in his first outing with the Raiders.

The practice report for Wednesday hasn’t been released yet, but the expectation is that Meyers should be ready to go for Week 3 when the Raiders host the Steelers. They are going to need their No. 2 receiver on the field if they want to have any shot of beating one of the top defenses in the NFL.
