After being shut out in Week 1, the expectation was that Hunter Renfrow would be in for a big performance in Week 2. Jakobi Meyers was out of the lineup due to a concussion and the Bills have historically struggled to cover slot receiver.
But that was not the case at all on Sunday as Renfrow was mostly invisible. He had just one target late in the game which resulted in a big gain. Other than that, he was a non-factor.
In a recent article by ESPN, they wrote about whose stock is up and down after the Week 2 loss for the Bills. The player whose stock is down the most after that game is certainly Renfrow, who caught just one pass all game. Here is what the site had to say about the former Pro Bowl receiver from 2021:
A week after not getting a single target for the first time in his career, Renfrow was again an invisible man. The 2021 Pro Bowler, who caught 103 passes that season, was not targeted by quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo until there were less than four minutes to play.
There were at least a few other occasions in which Renfrow was running free but Garoppolo did not see him. If Garoppolo, who has more interceptions (three) than throws to Renfrow (one), does not want to become too predictable, he needs to get the receiver more involved.
With Jakobi Meyers (likely) coming back in Week 3 and the Raiders getting Tre Tucker more involved, it seems like only a matter of time before they move on from Renfrow. He has just one catch through two games and feels like an afterthought in this offense.
Don’t be surprised if you start hearing trade rumors heat up over the next month as it certainly appears Renfrow’s time with the Raiders is coming to an end.
