It’s tough to read too much into who is starting and who isn’t during the first week of training camp practice. Often, the coaching staff rotates players in and out without giving too much thought as to who is filling each role.
However, it is notable when a rookie sees time with the first-string offense. And that is precisely what happened during the first week of practice, according to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez.
In one of the team’s first practices, third-round pick Bryan Edwards worked with the starters, along with Zay Jones and Nelson Agholor. Again, this isn’t to say this will be the team’s opening lineup in Week 1 when they take on the Carolina Panthers. Still, it is noteworthy that Edwards continues to impress enough to take snaps with the starters in 11 personnel (three receivers, one tight end, one running back).
Edwards continues to have a strong offseason for the Raiders as the hype around him grows. While Edwards isn’t expected to supplant Tyrell Williams or Hunter Renfrow, it is possible that he could carve out a rotational role as a rookie. And for a third-round pick who missed all of the pre-draft processes with an injury, that is pretty impressive.
