It took 13 games into the season, but for the first time as a Raider, Marcus Mariota will suit up and be available to play. He will be the primary backup for starting quarterback Derek Carr.
Nathan Peterman has been the primary backup to Carr all season and with the Raiders down big to the Falcons last week, Peterman took the field and played the final 11 snaps on offense.
Mariota was signed this offseason to a lucrative contract that had playtime incentives he is unlikely to reach. But he provides a more intriguing option should Carr be lost to injury or otherwise.
The former second overall pick spent the first part of the season on injured reserve. He returned on October 20. After that, Peterman continued to get the nod as he is more familiar with Gruden’s playbook in his second season in the system.
Also active for the first time for the Raiders is defensive end Vic Beasley who was signed two weeks ago to the team’s practice squad.
