Raiders trying to lure Bill Belichick back from UNC job to take head coaching position

With the Raiders in need of a head coach, they are said to be trying to get Bill Belichick to reverse course on his new job at UNC.

The ink is not even dry on the deal Bill Belichick signed to become the head coach at North Carolina, and NFL teams are trying to get him to change his mind.

Tops among those teams is the Las Vegas Raiders who have inquired about getting Belichick to consider reversing course and taking their head coach opening.

Belichick has a $10 million buyout on his new contract for UNC, which is not a big hurdle and it’s not for sure whether it even applies to taking a job at the pro level.

Tom Brady was already said to be taking an outsized role in analyzing who the Raiders next quarterback will be. And recent reports say he will also have Mark Davis’s ear in the team’s head coaching search to replace fired Antonio Pierce.

Belichick and Brady won six Super Bowls together in New England. Then again, Brady has a ring without Belichick, not the other way around.

Still, the Raiders are doing their due diligence and trying to make a wise decision. They have put in two other head coaching interview requests so far.
