Raiders TE Darren Waller named ‘perfect’ fantasy football pick in Round 6

Believe it or not, fantasy football drafts are starting to happen as the NFL season inches closer to starting. And without preseason, it’s going to be even more important to plan out your potential strategy ahead of time.

As you are creating your strategy for your upcoming draft, consider when and where you want to take your starting tight end. Studs like Travis Kelce and George Kittle are often going in the second-round of standard 12-team leagues, while Mark Andrews and Zach Ertz can be had a few rounds after that.

But the tight end you should consider selecting is Darren Waller of the Las Vegas Raiders. Currently going in the sixth-or-seventh round depending on the league, Waller offers league-winning upside as he will likely be the team’s leading receiver once again this season.

And in a recent article by Mike Clay of ESPN, he suggested that Waller is a “perfect” pick in the sixth-round of your draft due to his high floor and unlimited ceiling. Here are Clay’s thoughts on the Raiders’ star tight end:

If I’ve yet to grab a tight end, Waller is an option since folks are down on Derek Carr’s go-to target for some reason. During his breakout 2019 season, Waller finished no lower than fourth at the position in snaps, routes, targets, receptions, yardage and fantasy points. His targets might dip this season, but he’s a strong touchdown regression-to-the-mean candidate after scoring only three in 2019.

Waller finished the season with 1,150 yards last season, but only three touchdowns. If Waller can improve in the red zone at all, he easily could be your league’s highest-scoring touchdown. Given his size and athleticism advantage, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see him reach double-digit touchdowns this season.

Considering his price and upside, make sure you pencil in Waller as part of your draft strategy. He is currently a steal anytime after the top-50 picks in your draft.
