Raiders TE Brock Bowers breaks rookie receptions record…again

Bowers had to go out and get the rookie receptions record back from Malik Nabers and he did just that.

A week after Brock Bowers set the new rookie receptions record which had stood since last season, Malik Nabers broke Bowers’ record. Now about an hour after Nabers broke Bowers’ record, Bowers took the record right back.

Bowers’ set the new record at 108 catches in the team’s win in New Orleans last week. But when he did so, Giants WR Malik Nabers was just five catches away. That was exactly how many catches Nabers had in the Giants’ game in the early going Sunday, setting the new record at 109 catches.

That meant Bowers would need two catches to take the record back.

Last week Bowers had two catches on the first two plays for the Raiders. He is, after all, the focal point on their offense.

It would take a bit longer in this one, however. Aidan O’Connell threw twice for Bowers in the first quarter, but both sailed over his head. A third pass for Bowers in the second quarter was dropped.

Then on the first drive for the Raiders of the third quarter, Bowers had his first and second catch of the game on consecutive plays to get him the record back with 110 catches on the season.
