The Raiders continue to add to their defensive line during training camp as they inch closer to the start of the regular season. On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the team will sign veteran defensive end Chris Smith, who last played for the Cleveland Browns.
Raiders are signing veteran defensive lineman Chris Smith to a one-year deal, per @RosenhausSports.

Smith has started just two games in his NFL career, but has appeared in 60 since the 2014 season. He was originally a fifth-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars but has since played on two other teams. Smith has a career 8.5 sacks, but his best work has come as a run defender in the NFL, especially during the last two seasons with the Browns.
Smith is likely a depth signing at this point in training camp and it would be a mild surprise if he made the team’s initial 53-man roster. But with two weeks left of training camp, Smith will be given a shot to earn a roster spot with the Raiders.
