Raiders rookie Jackson Powers-Johnson switches to college number ahead of season opener

Jackson Powers-Johnson has his college number back just in time for the season.

We haven’t seen Jackson Powers-Johnson in a Raiders uniform yet. He was wearing the number 70 when he took the field for offseason practices, but soon was lost to injury, missing all of training camp and never appeared in a preseason game. Thus never officially donning a Raiders uniform.

When he does, he will be wearing a familiar number. Powers-Johnson will be switching (back) to the number 58 which he wore for most of his college career at University of Oregon.

Powers-Johnson took the number after Penei Sewell left for the NFL. And it’s been his identity ever since. As it happens, the All Pro Sewell kept the number 58 with the Lions.

He was wearing it in 2022 when the Ducks beat the North Carolina Tarheels in the Holiday Bowl. And he was wearing it last season when he won the Rimington Trophy as the nation’s top center and was named an All-American.

His twitter handle is even @BigJax58. And now he can keep it just the way it is because he has his number back.
