Raiders RB Rod Smith off the reserve/COVID-19 list, team back to full strength

The Raiders held their first padded practice of the year on Monday and they got some good news when the players took the field. Running back Rod Smith was back at practice after clearing the COVID-19 protocols.

Smith was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list just over a week ago with defensive end Maxx Crosby. But with both players back on the field, the Raiders currently do not have a single player on the reserve list.

Smith is competing for one of the backup running back jobs behind Josh Jacobs. While he may not be as gifted as a runner as someone like Devontae Booker, his ability to play multiple positions and help on special teams could earn him a spot this fall.

The Raiders will undoubtedly have more injuries and potential COVID-19 cases throughout training camp and during the season. But with the team starting ramp up practice in Las Vegas, it’s encouraging that the roster is fully healthy.
