For the second time this season the Raiders have had a player go on the reserve/COVID-19 list, be removed from that list, only to be placed back on the list days later. It happened to right tackle Trent Brown a couple of weeks ago and now it’s cornerback Lamarcus Joyner who heads back to the shelf, making him ineligible to play tonight when the Raiders face the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.
The team’s starting nickel corner was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list last Tuesday, presumably for close contact with defensive end Clelin Ferrell who had tested positive for COVID-19. Joyner tested negative for five straight days and was removed from the list on Friday.
As of Sunday morning, he has been sent back to that list for unknown reasons. It could be he did ultimately end up testing positive. Or it could be for close contact again, though with whom would be the question. It’s worth noting that when Trent Brown went back on the list, it wasn’t for testing positive, but for suffering from lingering effects of the disease after the fact.
Seven other players were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday. They were activated on Saturday and would need to test negative again this morning in order to play in the game tonight.
Nevin Lawson is most likely to replace Joyner in the lineup.
