Raiders hire former Jaguars HC Gus Bradley to be the new defensive coordinator

The Raiders have a new defensive coordinator and his name is Gus Bradley. The former head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to become the team’s new defensive coordinator after the Raiders fired Paul Guenther during the middle of the 2020 season.

The news was first reported by Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Bradley was last with the Los Angeles Chargers from 2017-2020. He made his name as a coach as the defensive coordinator on the Seattle Seahawks from 2009-2012 when he helped coach the “Legion of Boom” defense that went onto win a Super Bowl.

He was the head coach of the Jaguars from 2013-2016 and had a record of just 14-48. His defenses in Jacksonville played well, but he could never figure out the quarterback situation. But when he can just be a defensive coach, he still remains one of the best in the NFL at finding ways to stop offenses.

Bradley is primarily a 4-3 coach who uses a ton of Cover-3 schemes to force opponents to throw the ball underneath. We will continue to update the status of the rest of the defensive coaching staff as more information becomes available.
