It took a while, but the Las Vegas Raiders have officially cut their roster down to 53 players. Some of the moves were known as they were announced earlier in the day, but there were a few surprising cuts on both sides of the ball.

One of the most surprising moves was the release of starting right guard Alex Bars. The former Chicago Bears offensive lineman started 14 games for the Raiders in 2022, playing all of his snaps at right guard. However, he was beaten out in camp by Greg Van Roten, so the Raiders decided to move on.

Another interesting release is offensive guard Netane Muti, who played well in the preseason. He was expected to challenge Van Roten for the starting right guard spot but didn’t make the 53-man roster.

Matthew Butler was a fifth-round draft pick by the Raiders in the 2022 NFL Draft but only appeared in a handful of games as a rookie. Both he and Neil Ferrell were selected on Day 3 of that draft and are no longer on the team.

Tyler Hall was also waived by the Raiders despite a strong finish to the 2022 season. He played in the slot for the Raiders and had a solid camp, but was pushed off the roster with Nate Hobbs moving back into the slot.
