Fullbacks don’t get enough love these days. In that mold, Pro Football Focus has done them a solid, by tracking run assists. As you might expect, Alec Ingold was heavily featured.
PFT Commenter, a man who measured NFL players by “grit”, was pretty excited for these new stats. He tweeted out the top five in both five-yard and ten-yard run assists last season. And Mr. Ingold came in third in both categories.
He added some ‘fullback porn’ as well, featuring two big-time assists by Ingold on Josh Jacobs touchdown runs.

Per the stat, it appears as if Ingold assisted with eight runs of at least five yards and six runs of 10+ yards. Only 49ers FB Kyle Juszczyk and Vikings FB CJ Ham had more in either category.
Ingold was an undrafted rookie last season out of Wisconsin. He beat out Keith Smith in camp to become the team’s starting full back. He is just the kind of ‘Gruden Grinder’ this offense needed.
