Three years ago, Solomon Thomas had just finished his rookie season with the 49ers. The third overall pick in the 2017 draft had a respectable first season in the pros. One it seemed he could build upon. Then tragedy struck.
On January 23, his older sister Ella took her own life. She was just 24 years of age, two years older than him.
As someone who also has a sister who is less than two years older than me, I don’t want to even imagine what it would be like to lose her at such a young age.
Solomon’s grief has not subsided in the three years since his sister’s death. This week he put that grief into words and shared it with the world in a powerful, must-read piece for the Players Tribune.
The piece is titled “I need to say some things to Ella.” I won’t quote any passages here, because you should simply go and read it yourself.
