Earlier this week, the Raiders worked out and eventually signed veteran defensive lineman David Irving to the practice squad.
Irving was reinstated by the league earlier this month following an indefinite suspension due to substance abuse. However, Irving is back in the NFL and is now expected to play in Week 7 as the Raiders have activated him to the 53-man roster.

With Maliek Collins listed as questionable this week, the team decided to bring up Irving after he had clear all the necessary COVID-19 protocols. Irving isn’t expected to start, but could see some snaps behind the likes of Maurice Hurst and Kendal Vickers.
In the last 13 games in which Irving has been active and eligible, he’s been dynamic. In those contests, he has recorded 11 sacks and 22 quarterback hits. He is now reunited with defensive line coach Rod Marinelli, who he thrived under in Dallas. Expect Irving to take a few weeks to get used to the speed of the NFL, but for the former Cowboyto eventually make a big impact on this defense.
