Raiders DE Tyree Wilson struggles again in Week 10

After a few strong games in recent weeks, Tyree Wilson had a subpar outing against the Jets on Sunday Night Football. He was only able to record one pressure and was out-played by former third-round pick Malcolm Koonce.

In a recent article by Pro Football Focus, they discussed Wilson’s performance against the Jets and his play this season overall. It’s been quite the struggle for him with limited pressures and almost no production:

Wilson’s lone pressure this week was a decent bull rush against Mekhi Becton, but Zach Wilson escaped the pocket and ran for a first down. His only significant action in the run game involved a missed tackle on Dalvin Cook. Malcolm Koonce had a spectacular game against New York, which could further limit opportunities for Wilson to improve.

Wilson is the lowest-graded rookie EDGE defender in the NFL by quite a bit. He has struggled to date and there are some legitimate reasons for his poor play, but the Raiders need more. If they want to make a push to the postseason, they are going to need Wilson and Koonce to create more consistent pressure.

Right now, the Raiders just aren’t getting much of anything from their first-round pick.
