Raiders DC Gus Bradley brings four of his former Chargers assistants with him

There’s a new defensive coordinator in Las Vegas. And he is filling out his staff. Gus Bradley will bring onboard at least four of his assistants with him from the Chargers, where he had been the DC the past four seasons.

Those four coaches are:

Defensive Backs coach Ron Milus
Linebackers coach Richard Smith
Assistant DB coach Addison Lynch
Defensive Quality Control coach Ryan Milus

Ron Milus spent the past eight seasons coaching the secondary for the Chargers, the past four as DB coach. He has a combined 21 years of NFL coaching experience, including 12 years as either a DB or secondary coach. Previously coached the secondary with the Broncos and Panthers.

Richard Smith has 33 years of NFL coaching experience. He spent the past four seasons on the staff with the Chargers. Prior to that, he spent two seasons (2015-16) as the defensive coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons, one season of which they went to the Super Bowl.

From 2011-14, Smith coached on four straight playoff teams as the linebackers coach in his second stint with the Denver Broncos, including a 2013 squad that won the AFC title and faced Seattle in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Smith has also coached linebackers with the Carolina Panthers for two seasons (2009-10), spent three seasons (2006-08) as defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans after one season in the same role with the Miami Dolphins in 2005. He spent the 2003-04 seasons as the assistant head coach and linebackers coach with the Detroit Lions after serving as the linebackers coach for the San Francisco 49ers from 1997-2002.

Addison Lynch was promoted from defensive quality control coach his first two seasons with the Chargers to Assistant DB coach last season for the Chargers and retains that position with the Raiders.

Ryan Milus is the son of Ron Milus. He was a defensive quality control coach with the Chargers last season after spending a year as an intern to the Alex G Spanos Coaching Fellowship.
