Raiders cut midseason acquisition WR Trevor Davis, activate LB Marquel Lee

Big blowout losses this season seem to be causing heads to roll the following day. In week seven the Raiders were torched by the Packers and the next day the Raiders traded Gareon Conley to the Texans for a third round pick. Sunday the Raiders were routed by the Chiefs. Today it was Trevor Davis who got his walking papers.

Conley was burnt several times by Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Davis was responsible for two big turnovers in the game. One of them cam on a kick return fumble that led to a Chiefs touchdown. The other was an end around on 4th and one in which he was stopped for a loss.

That end around play was the only one Davis played on offense. And after the fumble, his kick return duties were stripped as well, in favor of Jalen Richard. Gruden sounded very much like the move to waive Davis was coming.

“Yeah, we want to look at Jalen. Looking for a spark, you know?” Gruden said of the return game. “We’re looking for somebody to create some field position and Jalen’s had a history of doing it, making some big plays. So that’ll be an area we continue to study and try to improve at.”

Gruden also spoke of adding a spark when asked about whether linebacker Marquel Lee would be activated from injured reserve this week. Lee was activated and Davis was waived.

Lee was a 5th round pick by the Raiders in 2017. He had been on IR since Week 4.
