Thursday the Raiders brought back a familiar face. The team claimed Paul Butler who had been waived by the Detroit Lions. The former undrafted tight end had spent the past two off-seasons with the Raiders.
Butler was signed following the 2018 draft out of California (PA). He spent the 2018 season on the team’s practice squad and was brought back for another run at the roster in 2019, but landed on injured reserve just prior to the start of the season and was waived.
Once he was healthy, Butler was signed back to the practice squad in December. This time once the season was over, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Lions. Obviously he never even got in the building before his time with the Lions came to an and. Now he’s back with the Raiders.
Butler joins a tight end group that’s even more stacked than it was when he left. Leading receiver Darren Waller returns along with second-year man, Foster Moreau. They are joined by veteran former All-Pro Jason Witten and journeyman Nick O’Leary.
