Raiders CB Damon Arnette among lowest-graded first-round picks during 2020 season

It’s been a rough rookie season for Damon Arnette. On top of shaky play, he’s now dealt with a broken thumb and multiple concussions. But his worst game of the season occurred in Week 16 as he allowed the game-winning with only seconds left in the game.

Unfortunately, Anrette’s season has been among the worst for the first-round picks in 2020. According to Pro Football Focus, his grade sits at 43.5 as he is the fourth-worst rookie from the first round. Here is what the site had to say about Arnette from last week and his performance overall this season.

“Arnette was the player who went absent without leave for the incredible late-game, no-look pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick, playing tight to the line of scrimmage when the only prayer Miami had was a deep completion of some kind.

Overall, he surrendered six catches for 78 yards and wound up with a mere 30.1 PFF coverage grade. His rookie season has been badly interrupted with injuries, but this was an unfortunate way to resume.”

Out of 126 qualifying cornerbacks, Arnette ranks as No. 118 by Pro Football Focus. The Raiders are still very hopeful that he can develop into a high-quality outside cornerback, but his rookie season has been a bit disappointing. Don’t be surprised if the Raiders add another cornerback, whether it’s via the draft or free agency, to push Arnette in 2021.
