Yesterday, I put out a piece detailing the priority free agents for the Raiders to re-sign. The top name on that list was Denzelle Good. Three hours after that article was posted, Good tweeted “See you in Vegas” and linemate Richie Incognito congratulated him.
That was a pretty good indication the team had struck a deal with the versatile guard. Thursday, the team made the move official, announcing Good had been re-signed to a 1-year deal.
Good originally joined the Raiders after being claimed off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts late in the 2018 season. A 6-foot-5, 340-pounder started 28 games for the Colts, but had issues with offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo who benched Good for leaving the team for a week to be with his family after his brother’s murder. Good would later ask for his release and was granted it. DeGuglielmo was fired after the season.
The moral here is Good’s release wasn’t a talent thing. He is a proven player. He had filled in at right guard for the injured Gabe Jackson late in 2018 and was in line to start at left guard last season until the team signed Richie Incognito. Good would again fill in for Jackson for three games at right guard this past season and when Incognito was lost to injury late in the season, Good stepped in and played quite well at left guard as well.
