We are still five months away from the NFL Draft. But with college football games heating up and inching closer to the playoffs, it’s time to start looking at potential first-round prospects for the Raiders.
One position the team could add some more talent to is their defensive line. The 2021 draft has several first-round edge prospects, including Joseph Ossai from Texas.
In a recent article by Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report, he gave the Raiders Ossai with the No. 17 pick in the first round. Here is why Sobleski believes Ossai would be a great fit with the Raiders:
“Texas’ Joseph Ossai lives in the backfield. His three forced fumbles and 14 tackles for loss lead the team. The 6’4″, 253-pound junior is excellent against the run, fluidly rushes the passer and relentlessly pursues the ball.
The Raiders are very much in the playoff hunt. But general manager Mike Mayock understands his roster’s limitations. Expect him to attack the team’s pass rush, or lack thereof, again next offseason.”
Through eight games, Ossai has 13.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks. While he could stand to gain some weight, his ability to stop the run and create a pass rush makes him a first-round prospect at defensive end. Keep an eye on Ossai over the next few weeks as he could easily wind up as a top-20 pick by the time the NFL Draft rolls around.
