PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Down, but not out, Rutgers football somehow orchestrated a major fourth-quarter comeback for a 27-24 win over Michigan State.
And in doing so, Rutgers (5-2, 2-2 Big Ten) took a massive step towards bowl eligibility.
Through the first three quarters, it seemed like everything went wrong for Rutgers. Officiating that was…questionable. Blown assignments and turnovers marred both sides of the ball.
And yet, Rutgers didn’t quit.
In what is undoubtedly the best and most important win of the [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag] 2.0 era, Rutgers looked lost for three quarters against Michigan State.
But a comeback that started with a fumble recovery on a punt (and an Aaron Young touchdown) and ended with [autotag]Kyle Monangai[/autotag] running for 21 yards has suddenly propelled the Scarlet Knights to one win away from a bowl game.
In doing so, Rutgers showed that this rebuild on Schiano has viability. In a game where everything seemed lackluster and lacking, Rutgers rose above their means and provided a win that isn’t just a statement but now foundational.
