Quarantine Celtics Day 6: thoughts on Tom Brady, rating TP, pizza

The Boston Celtics are staying inside to help flatten the curve, and they’re sharing their thoughts on social media to help US get through it with them.

The Boston Celtics are holed up in their apartments, self-quarantining with the rest of us, trying to adjust to the new normal that is required to prevent the spread of the virus behind the NBA’s and Boston’s suspension of games.

But they’ve been opening a window to what they’ve been focusing on to pass the time while we all wait for progress controlling the pandemic.

The Celtics Wire is collecting their social media musings all in one place to help you pass the time without basketball, which is looking like it will extend until at least mid-may with new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control recommending gatherings of 50 or more people be rescheduled until that date at minimum.

With news New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is headed to another team whenever the NFL resumes activities, there’s some actual sports-related topics on some of their minds, and of course a little levity is being cast about in an attempt to keep us from going too stir-crazy.

Third-year forward Jayson Tatum paid his respects to Brady with a simple message lauding the career of the Hall of Fame quarterback retweeted by teammates Daniel Theis and Vincent Poirier, for example:

And before that news broke, the St. Louis native got into a debate on the better option for local pizza in his home state of Missouri.

Unofficial team captain wrapped up his sociological research on historical toilet paper brand popularity, with one brand’s dedication to providing multiple “plys” (what, exactly, are those?) proving to be the decisive factor.

The Flower Mound native also had his own ideas about Tom Brady’s departure that ought to worry team president Danny Ainge (happy birthday!) at least a little, given he himself forced his way out of a deal to play for the Toronto Blue Jays to come to the NBA nearly three decades ago.

We kid.

We think.

Center Enes Kanter’s humor is uncharacteristically a little slow, given he’s reposting Smart’s repertoire from the day before:

But we’re pretty sure he’ll make up for it soon enough.

And rookie center Vincent Poirier reminds us not to let our guard down with personal hygiene, even at the expense of Kanter’s humor.

Maybe especially at the expense of it.

While Grant Williams joins another Twitter loser lamenting the loss of the big dance and March Madness, the 2020 NCAA Tournament canceled not just for fans, but for the players who worked for years to get there.

And of course veteran forward Gordon Hayward retweeted the Celtics’ video of him reminding us of the importance of flattening the curve for our collective well-being.

So, as Hayward implores, stay home if you can, stay humorous if possible, and most of all — stay strong. We are all in this together, and one day (hopefully soon), it’ll be behind us while basketball is in front again.
