Purdue phenom wide receiver Rondale Moore has elected to opt out of playing in the 2020 season for the Boilermakers. Moore announced he is sitting out the uncertain college season and will instead prep for the 2021 NFL Draft.
Moore is a name that Detroit Lions fans will need to learn. With Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay, Danny Amendola and Marvin Hall — the team’s top four wideouts — all entering the final year of their respective contracts, the need for fresh and dynamic talent at WR is a huge one for Detroit.
Dynamic certainly described Moore’s freshman season at Purdue catching passes from Lions backup QB David Blough. At just 5-9 and 180 pounds (listed by Purdue), he lit the Big Ten on fire as a freshman in 2018. Moore caught 114 passes for over 1,200 yards and 12 TDs and also ran for over 200 yards and scored twice as a runner.
He only played in four games in 2019 due to a hamstring injury, though it’s worth noting he was the best player on the field in two of those (Vanderbilt and Nebraska).
Moore can play in the slot or outside and he’s lightning with the ball in his hands. His instant acceleration, great balance and shifty feet make him a nightmare to try and tackle.
Right now Moore generally projects as a top-20 overall talent. The Lions having his college QB on board in Blough can help them decide just how much they should value Moore.
