Punter Mark Vassett discusses approach to second season with Buffs

Australian punter Mark Vassett is looking for consistency during his second season in Boulder

Colorado Buffaloes punter Mark Vassett had a tremendous first season in Boulder, which earned the specialist an invite to the 2024 Big 12 football media days in Las Vegas along with head coach Deion Sanders and his sons, Shedeur and Shilo.

After transferring out of Louisville, he averaged 44.4 yards per punt (60 total) and had an eye-popping 22 boots inside the 20-yard line. Vassett also boomed 16 punts that traveled at least 50 yards. The Austrailian-born punter is entering his senior season with a chance to play on Sundays if he has another big fall.

At Big 12 media days this past week, I asked Vassett about his goals for the upcoming season:

“Just doing my job (by) pinning teams deep and flipping the field when we’re backed up, being consistent (and) eliminating the misses,” Vassett said. “That is basically what a good punter does.”
