Sony has officially revealed new PS5 and DualSense color variants, meaning players will finally be able to tailor the aesthetic of their hardware to suit their own personal preferences. Controllers in Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple are expected to hit store shelves in January 2022, adding to the Original White, Cosmic Red, and Midnight Black versions that are already available.
While this is likely exciting for PS5 owners, the bigger news is the announcement of official customizable covers for the console itself. A highly coveted feature since launch last November, these covers will undoubtedly prove popular among PlayStation fans who are less sold on the machine’s sleek, futuristic appearance – especially those who have traditionally kept their entertainment centers in adherence with a black color scheme.
PS5 covers in Cosmic Red and Midnight Black will be available to purchase from January 2022 in certain regions. Units in the three newer colors – Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple – are also expected to launch at some point in the first half of the year, although that’s about as much information as we’ve gotten.
According to the PlayStation blog, the console covers and controllers will be available to purchase from specific retailers in the U.S., the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea, and the Philippines.
Sony has stated that it intends to make the new color variants available in territories not listed above over the course of 2022. No additional information has been revealed at the time of writing, nor has a concrete release date been confirmed for either the console covers or the controllers.
In contrast to the new covers and controllers, the PS5 itself is still an extremely difficult machine to get your hands on. If you’ve been unable to buy one ahead of Christmas and are worried about disappointing your kids, we put together a super serious list of 15 ways to stop your kids from hating you because you couldn’t get a PS5.
