Oklahoma Sooner wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb has been linked to the Jacksonville Jaguars in mock drafts for months now. Many believe he is the best receiver in the class and his stats tell a similar story, as the 6-foot-2, 195-pound receiver has accumulated 58 receptions for 1,208 yards and a whopping 14 touchdowns in 2019.
For a while the Jaguars have been searching for that No. 1 receiver. The Jaguars thought that Allen Robinson was their guy but the team ultimately was unable to keep the budding young star. In 2019, however, D.J. Chark has exploded onto the scene in route to a likely 1,000-yard, double digit touchdown campaign. He and Minshew have obviously developed a close connection and the pair have created much of the Jags’ success this season.
Why go after Lamb then? Is Lamb THAT good? What would he offer to the Jaguars?
During the 2019 season, Chark has developed into a deep ball, big-play threat for the offense. He’s been electric vertically and has found his niche in the Jacksonville offense. Lamb brings a completely different style to the game, though.
Lamb’s best traits are his hands and his body control/catch radius. He isn’t a super twitchy player, or a guy who will burn you going deep. However, he is my top receiver in the class and has very little concerns as a prospect.
I mentioned Lamb’s hands and body control earlier. He possesses some of the best hands fans will see in a prospect. He can box out defenders with his bigger frame, ensuring the catch. In the short and medium passing game, Lamb is just deadly. He is a super savvy route-runner and understands the nuances of the position.

Woah! I’m not even sure what I just witnessed, but woah. Lamb has crazy body control and can contort his body in a multitude of ways, putting himself in the best position to haul in any pass. For a team that has struggled with drops over the years, Lamb’s sure-handedness also would be a welcomed addition to the Jacksonville offense.
While I don’t view Lamb as a twitchy athlete, his ability to create after the catch is something to watch, especially for a bigger framed receiver.

These are just two instances of Lamb’s ability to create after the catch. He can make you miss and pick up extra yardage or acquire that tough first down. He is the draft’s most complete receiver and brings a lot of NFL traits to his game. Many fans will be more familiar with Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy, but I think lamb is the best receiver in the draft class hands down.
The traits mentioned earlier makes Lamb and interesting player to watch and a highly sought after prospect. I expect to see Lamb selected somewhere in the Top-15 of the draft and it may very well be to Jacksonville.
The pending decisions Shad Khan has to make on Doug Marrone and Dave Caldwell will be telling as to what happens in April at the draft. With a new GM, the Jaguars would be open to just about every position, even quarterback. However, if the incumbent staff remains, Lamb would be a nice piece to add to a young offense led by Gardner Minshew.
While I think there may be a better player on the board come Jacksonville’s turn to select in April, Lamb would be an instant game-changing receiver for an underwhelming, but promising offensive unit.
