Prospect for the Pack: TCU WR Jalen Reagor

Breaking down TCU receiver Jalen Reagor, a potential draft pick for the Packers in the 2020 draft.

The Green Bay Packers must use the 2020 NFL Draft to provide the finishing touches on a team that won 13 regular-season games and got within one game of the Super Bowl during Matt LaFleur’s first season as head coach.

Between now and the draft, Packers Wire will periodically break down one top prospect fitting the Packers’ roster needs.

Up next is TCU receiver Jalen Reagor:

What he can do

– Instant accelerator. Goes from 0 to 60 in a flash
– Tape shows 4.3 speed. He’ll make easy work of the 40 at the combine
– Field-stretcher with easy separation skills downfield. Accelerates away from everyone
– Lateral agility can be devastating for defenders in the open field
– Creative making and finding space with the ball in his hands
– Big-play creator in the return game
– Stands under 6-0 but doesn’t play small. Attacks the ball in the air.
– Powerful lower-body. Elite vertical leaping ability. Goes and gets it
– Competitive and successful at the catch point, especially when extending away from his body
– Many of his contested-catch situations were the result of the quarterback delivering the ball late. Gets open and separates early in routes
– Tracks the ball consistently on deep balls
– Good vision on gadget plays. Put his foot in the ground and ran away from Kenneth Murray on one end around
– Had some drop issues and some concentration issues returning punts but generally reliable doing both. Not a body-catcher. Strong hands

How he fits

Packers coach Matt LaFleur often likes to compare the receiver group to a basketball team. The different sizes and skill sets need to be complementary. Well, he has a point-scoring wing (Davante Adams), a physical power forward (Allen Lazard), a field-stretching big (Marquez Valdes-Scantling) and a versatile bench guy (Equanimeous St. Brown). Reagor would provide the lightning-fast combo guard capable of filling it up and making everyone’s life easier. He can win vertically, create on his own, gain yards after the catch, space the field and win in the red zone. If there’s something the Packers need at receiver, Reagor can probably provide it. Adding him to the mix would really complete LaFleur’s basketball analogy at receiver.

NFL comp

It’s not fair to compare anyone to Tyreek Hill as a player, but there are flashes of him in Reagor’s tape. The deep speed, the way he accelerates away from defenders and the elusiveness and creativity in the open field are all Hill-like. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared Reagor to Curtis Samuel. The guess here is that Reagor ends up somewhere in between the two. There’s a touch of Stefon Diggs to his movement ability within routes and competitiveness at the catch point downfield.

Where Packers could get him

Most national mock drafts have Reagor available at No. 30 overall. Some even have him there toward the end of the second round, but I’d be shocked if he’s available at No. 62. It’s possible the Packers could manipulate the board, either moving back from 30 or moving up from 62, to get him. Anywhere between 20 and 40 looks like his likely range.
