Projecting Michigan football’s 2020 depth chart

Using both some inside intel as well as plenty of guesswork, here’s who we think will see the field for the Wolverines this fall.

Safety

Daxton Hill Brad Hawkins
German Green (or) Quinten Johnson Sammy Faustin (or) RJ Moten (or) Jordan Morant

There’s no question who the two starters are here.

Brad Hawkins started opposite Josh Metellus last year, but when he got hurt, Daxton Hill moved from nickelback to being on the field as a starter at safety. Considering it was his first year, the former five-star played well and looks to have a breakout campaign in 2020.

The backups are less obvious. There are a lot of names, but no particular standouts there as of yet. Sammy Faustin and German Green are entering their third years and could contend for playing time, while Quinten Johnson is entering his second year, but didn’t suit up until the bowl game due to injury.

True freshmen RJ Moten and Jordan Morant will likely get some play aside from special teams, but it will be situational.

Don’t count out: Faustin. He was well-liked early in his career, but had to acclimate to the college game and add weight. He very well could see the field as a backup this year if his trajectory holds.
