Prized 5-star receiver Derek Meadows commits to LSU

The Tigers withstood a late push from Notre Dame to land their top uncommitted receiver target.

LSU’s 2025 recruiting class truly has the potential to be something special.

On Saturday, a group that was already a consensus top-five class nationally got even better with the addition of five-star 2025 receiver [autotag]Derek Meadows[/autotag] as the elite Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) pass-catcher announced his commitment to the Tigers.

It’s a major pickup at a position of need for LSU, which previously held a commitment from the class’ No. 1 receiver, [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag], who decommitted in May and recently pledged to Oregon. Meadows isn’t quite as highly rated, but he ranks as the No. 41 player nationally in the On3 industry rankings, which have him as a four-star despite his five-star rating from 247Sports.

Meadows had reportedly made up his mind in favor of the Tigers ahead of his original commitment date of last Saturday, according to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, but he delayed the decision amid late pushes from his other finalists: Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia and Michigan.

The Fighting Irish in particular were considered to be making the strongest push for Meadows, but LSU was able to withstand the pressure and bring Meadows on board.

LSU’s class moved up from third to fourth according to 247Sports with Meadows’ commitment, and it could be moving up in the rankings from On3 — which already pegged the Tigers’ class at No. 3 — as well.
