There’s one thing about an event, a game, a meet, a match or a tournament that is never guaranteed.
The drama.
In the unscripted world of sports, just because we build something up to be must-see TV doesn’t mean you will be fulfilled by the product.
For example, we give you this year’s SEC Tournament.
On the surface, it looks like it could be an all-timer. The deeper you dig the more you start thinking about cashing in some stock to pay for the trip and tickets.
It should be epic. But epic doesn’t wander off the streets and sit down at mid-court. A long five days in Tampa has the potential to be unbelievable because there are so many really good teams in the SEC.
Of course, they all have their flaws, like every college basketball team. Some just have fewer than others.
But I have said this on the record (which means on the radio for me) that I would take the SEC vs. the field in the big tournament next week.
What we will find out in Tampa is not necessarily who the best team is (to me, that is the team that wins the grind that is the regular season) or which team is best equipped to win it all (conference tournaments are different animals from the Big Dance).
More than anything, the fan bases should just sit back and enjoy it. Except those on the bubble, of course.
Here’s how it looks heading into Wednesday’s first two games of the SEC Tournament.
