If someone told you the Oklahoma Sooners were 4-2 and you read through Oklahoma message boards, you’d think they told you an outrageous lie. And yet, here we are as Oklahoma remains 4-2 despite getting wrecked by their biggest rival for the second time in three years, largely thanks to poor game planning and execution by the entire offensive operation.
Things can get better, but that’s going to take some work. It will need the Sooners’ offensive coordinator, the struggling QB room, and the rest of the offense pushing through and executing better as a whole.
On Saturday, they’ll host an old friend of former Oklahoma assistant Shane Beamer when he brings his South Carolina Gamecocks to Norman.
They’ll bring a defensive line that has multiple future NFL players on it and for a Sooners team with a struggling offensive line, that’s the last thing any fan may want to hear.
I expect the defense to bounce back in a big way, so I won’t waste too many words on them. If Oklahoma doesn’t block and if starting QB Michael Hawkins isn’t more aggressive than he has been, they can and likely will lose this game.
With that said, I think the Sooners get better QB play and the running game makes more plays than they did in Dallas. This game will be close from beginning to end, but R Mason Thomas seals the game. Taylor Tatum scores, while Zion Kearney catches at least three passes. I think Bauer Sharp scores too.
Oklahoma 27, South Carolina 23
