Arizona Cardinals fans know that there are lesser-known or lesser-heralded players in training camp who come in and stand out each year. How many third quarterbacks, bottom-of-the-roster pass rushers and young receivers have won the hearts of fans for their work in training camp and in the preseason?
They often show great effort, they are going up against other back-of-the-roster players and have a little flair to them.
Who could those guys be this year?
These are some guys to watch for as potential standouts:
WR Xavier Weaver
Weaver is one of the Cardinals’ three undrafted rookie signings this year and perhaps has a real shot at making the roster if the team goes with six receivers. He has good athleticism and was a solid playmaker for Colorado last season.
TE Bernhard Seikovits
Seikovits is now in his fourth training camp with the Cardinals. The Austrian tight end has a decent shot at a fourth tight ends spot on the roster and, now with three years of training camp and practice squad experience, will probably flash in preseason games.
WR Greg Dortch
This should come as no surprise. He always stands out in training camp when given opportunities. The difference this year is that is could be the team’s top slot receiver.
WR Daniel Arias
Arias flashed a little bit in training camp and the preseason last year. He plays hard on special teams and has the size (6-foot-3) to be noticed.
WR Tejhaun Palmer
Palmer is super athletic. Speed and athleticism stand out. He will be lining up against defensive backs vying for a roster spot so he will likely make a few highlight plays.
