Potential Panthers draft pick breaks 40-yard dash record at 2024 combine

WR Xavier Worthy, who could be on the board for the Panthers in April, just set a new record for the NFL combine’s 40-yard dash.

Carolina Panthers fans, we have a player to keep an eye on—as long as you can keep up with him.

During Saturday’s outing of the 2024 scouting combine, University of Texas wideout Xavier Worthy set the event’s all-time record for the 40-yard dash. After clocking in at 4.25 seconds in his first run, the 20-year-old receiver posted his follow-up at 4.21 seconds—breaking the previous mark of 4.22 seconds held by John Ross (2017).

Worthy is part of the deepest wide receiver class in recent memory, one that could see as many as three players go within the draft’s top six selections. That, of course, is a splendid prospect for the receiver-needy Panthers—who don’t hit the clock until the beginning of the second round.

Prior to his blazing 40, Worthy had largely been projected as an early Day 2 pick. The speedy pass catcher told reporters that the Panthers were one of the handful of teams that he met with at the combine.
