Potential free agent target for Cardinals: C Nick Martin

Nick Martin was just recently released from the Texans – could he join ex-teammate DeAndre Hopkins in the desert?

In a continued look at free agents the Arizona Cardinals could look into, we look at Nick Martin, who was recently cut by the Houston Texans.

Drafted in the second round in 2016 and starting at center for Houston since 2017, including every game each of the last three years, Martin should have a market in a league that constantly craves offensive line depth. And he would make sense for the Cards, as Sean Kugler recently mentioned bringing in competition at the center spot to compete with Mason Cole and Lamont Gaillard.

Martin would make a ton of sense, even if he was just brought in for depth (his recent contract with Houston was $11M per year). It might be a mental jump to think Arizona could pursue Martin, who would likely require starter money.

Should Arizona sign him, he would be penciled in as the starter as center, rather than the “competition” that Kugler mentioned. That should probably not keep Arizona from pursuing the veteran, who’s still in his 20s.

He has only been penalized 13 times his entire career, only twice for false starts.

What do you guys think? Could Martin join ex-teammate DeAndre Hopkins in the desert?
