Texas baseball opened up a crucial Big 12 series with a 12-2 victory over No. 6 West Virginia on Thursday. Left fielder Porter Brown mashed three home runs and ace Lucas Gordan dazzled for seven shutout innings in the win.
The Longhorns came out firing on all cylinders from the jump. Texas pushed across one run on four hits in the first inning before breaking the game open with five more in the second.
The early cushion and excellent pitching from Gordon helped Texas cruise to a stress-free win.
Dylan Campbell had a good night at the plate going 3-for-4 with a home run. He extended his school record hit streak to 31 with a bunt single in the first inning.
Texas’ Big 12 title hopes remain alive with the game one win. The Longhorns need to complete the sweep of the Mountaineers and have Oklahoma take one game from Oklahoma State to win the regular season title.
Texas will shoot for the series victory on Friday night with Lebarron Johnson Jr. on the mound.
