PopCat, FIFA 22 and Resident Evil Village among Google’s top trending games of 2021

Kitty Clicking reigns supreme.

Google Trends released its annual Year in Search results, including what video games were chart-toppers in 2021.

It’s been quite a momentous year for the video game industry, despite the  many delays  and  hardware shortages. Like a certain plumber ruthlessly squashing anthropomorphic turtles beneath his boot in a never-ending cycle of cartoon violence to rescue a princess, video games trudged ever onward. However, you’d likely never guess what games topped out algorithms during this go-around the sun.

The top trending games of 2021 are:

  1. PopCat
  2. FIFA 22
  3. Battlefield 2042
  4. Monster Hunter Rise
  5. Resident Evil Village
  6. Call of Duty: Vanguard
  7. Far Cry 6
  8. Madden NFL 22
  9. Metroid Dread

Yes, PopCat  was the most talked-about game this year. Not League of LegendsFortnite  or flipping Call of Duty — nay, it was the browser-based kitty clicker. Quite the upset, that.

FIFA 22 taking second isn’t surprising given  how popular it is with streamersBattlefield 2042  is by no means a shock either, though I’m curious  how much of that attention was negative. Bet you anything that Lady Dimitrescu is responsible for most of Resident Evil Village’s  success.
