The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially gone a full week without an offensive coordinator after mutually parting ways with John DeFilippo. They’ve interviewed one candidate so far in former New York Giants coach Ben McAdoo and former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, who may have interviewed for the opening or an assistant coaching role on offense. The Jags also have plans to interview former Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden, too.
The Jags may not stop there with the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers being eliminated in the conference championship, which gives them an easy path to interview assistants from both teams. Each team clearly got better offensive play out of their respective units than the Jags did and have assistants who might be able to change things for Leonard Fournette and company.
One name in particular who comes to mind from the teams that participated in the conference championships is Titans quarterbacks coach Pat O’Hara, who has ties to the city of Jacksonville as he was once the Jacksonville Sharks’ (AFL) director of player personnel.
Jags fans witnessed what the Titans’ offense was capable of as they dropped 42 points on Jacksonville in their last meeting. Some of that was due to the play of Ryan Tannehill, who O’Hara clearly has done a great job coaching. Additionally, the Titans run game was strong after they defeated the Jags and their success with Derrick Henry also my be enticing to them.
I named some other candidates who could replace DeFilippo after he decided to move on and many of the candidates are still available it seems. One of those names was one the Jags plan to interview in Gruden. Another was Jason Garrett who was named the offensive coordinator of the Giants this weekend.
That said, two candidates from the list remain in Jim Caldwell, who is leaving the Miami Dolphins and wants to coach, and the other is Mike Shula, who formerly worked for the Jags under Jack Del Rio.
Could either be the answer or is there another coach I mentioned that should get the job? Is there someone else you all at home feel should be the new coordinator? Let us know in the poll below.
