Despite openly wishing to add “a lot of competition” under center this offseason, general manager Scott Fitterer and the Carolina Panthers haven’t really done it.
Sure, they made their move to trade up and select University of Mississippi product Matt Corral in the 2022 NFL draft. But is their competition for the starting quarterback job really going to be a two-horse race between a depreciating Sam Darnold and a third-round pick?
Maybe not.
Although we’re now in June, there’s still a feeling that the Panthers will add some sort of veteran presence to the room. But their options—which weren’t exactly plentiful nor promising to begin with—are dwindling by the week.
We all know they started the break by swinging and missing hard on new Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. Nick Foles, who suddenly became a somewhat appealing name, got scooped up by the Indianapolis Colts a few weeks back. And, heck, even Ryan Fitzpatrick is no longer a lifeline—as the 39-year-old called it quits on Thursday.
That now leaves Carolina with an interesting batch of candidates left—in which they can either acquire via trade or free agency. So, we want to know—who do you want to see them add?
