Three of the Jacksonville Jaguars four draft selections so far have been on the defensive side with the latest being the selection of Ohio State defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton with the No. 72 overall pick.
While the Day 1 additions of C.J. Henderson and K’Lavon Chaisson should help the Jags become a better unit against the pass, Hamilton’s addition could help them more against the run. His selection comes as no shock as the team emphasized that they weren’t happy with their numbers against the run, which took a plummet when veteran Marcell Dareus was placed on injured reserve.
At 6-foot-4, 320 pounds, Hamilton was a force while anchoring the Buckeye’s defense in 2019. While starting in 14 games, he accumulated 28 tackles and six sacks. However, the most impressive part about his production was the chaos he caused behind the line, as he totaled 10.5 tackles for loss.
Hamilton also was impressive as a pass-rusher while at Ohio State and many scouts feel he can become better at it. With great agility, solid feet, and impressive burst, he could find himself terrorizing AFC quarterbacks like Deshaun Watson, Ryan Tannehill, and Philip Rivers in no time.
This addition is one that could end up working out well for the Jags in a key area for them. Now, we’d like to know how you all at home feel about his selection.
