Poll: Should Chargers sign QB Cam Newton?

Should the Chargers sign Cam Newton or roll with Tyrod Taylor and a rookie?

The Panthers are moving on from quarterback Cam Newton. The 30-year old was released by the franchise on Tuesday.

Prior to being let go of, the Panthers attempted to trade him. The Bears and Chargers showed interest, according to Rapoport. However, they were unable to strike a deal.

Newton has a polished resume, earning the 2015 NFL MVP award and being named to three Pro Bowls during his stint with Carolina.

But injuries have hampered the former Auburn product. In the past three seasons, Newton underwent multiple shoulder surgeries and missed all but two games in 2019 due to a foot injury that required surgery.

Newton happened to check off a key box in his effort to sway away the durability concerns lingering over him.

Newton took a physical on Monday in Atlanta and passed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. His injured foot and shoulder “checked out well.” The Panthers and Newton’s agency co-coordinated the physical.

Los Angeles has already been in contact in attempt to acquire Newton via trade. Now a free agent, is he worth signing? Or, should they roll with Tyrod Taylor as the bridge to a rookie?

The Chargers have expressed that they feel comfortable with Taylor under center to start the new season. But in an attempt to sell tickets in their new stadium, the thought of bringing in a big-name quarterback could be appealing.

I still firmly believe they should draft one in the first-round to get whoever that may be on the rookie contract and let Taylor start until they feel comfortable enough to let the first-year player take the reins.

With that being said, we want to know what you think the Bolts should do.
