Pokimane announces indefinite hiatus from Twitch

The streaming star explains that she needs a ‘mental reset’ right now.

Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys, Twitch’s most famous female streamer, is taking a break from the platform until further notice.

On Wednesday, Anys made the announcement regarding her temporary leave from Twitch — specifically mentioning mental well-being and some much-needed rest.

“I’ve been feeling in need of a mental reset and some time to focus on myself [and] my life offline,” Anys said on Twitter. “[In my opinion,] proper breaks are essential to one’s health [and] career longevity, and I’m so grateful for the support y’all have shown me over the years. Thanks for putting me in a position where I’m able to take time off like this.”

Anys didn’t specify when she would return but still reassured fans that her content-making days are far from over. It’s not an altogether surprising move, either. Earlier this year, Anys revealed that she almost quit streaming on Twitch entirely. Explicitly citing the influx of female streamers and viewers during the pandemic that helped her stay.

According to Twitchtracker, Anys has more than 9.2 million followers on the platform. Not only that, but she has over 6.6 million subscribers on YouTube. So yeah, there’s no doubting her star power.

In January, she also came under fire for streaming Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender and subsequently getting banned. It was only a temporary suspension, though. Twitch would likely never let an influencer that big go haphazardly.
