Playoff probability indicates Browns still in the driver’s seat toward postseason slot

The Browns are still in the driver’s seat toward a postseason spot despite dropping two-in-a-row.

Despite dropping two in a row, all signs point toward the Cleveland Browns still controlling their own destiny. Every NFL playoff probability simulator still gives the Browns right around a 60 percent chance to make the playoffs despite the massive body count they continue to see on Injured Reserve.

Using three different metrics, the Browns have favorable odds to reach the playoffs in all of them. According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, the Browns sit with a 64.9 percent chance to make the playoffs. This is higher than the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers, and directly below the Houston Texans.

Using DVOA’s playoff odds, they have the Browns sitting at a 61.8 percent chance to still make the playoffs. Sumer Sports has been the most bullish on the Browns and their chances to make the playoffs despite this two-game skid, as they have Cleveland sitting with a 70 percent chance to still sneak into postseason play.

Even crawling to the finish line and getting into the postseason would be a huge testament to the leadership and coaching in Cleveland. No team has had to overcome more in terms of injuries this season, and the Browns still sit with a 7-5 record.
