When members of the Golden State Warriors suit up against the NBA’s new wave of talent, they are playing against a group of players that have watched as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green registered three titles over five trips to the NBA Finals.
During Golden State’s run with Curry, Thompson and Green, young players have become fans of the Warriors’ trio of All-Stars.
When discussing his first season with the Boston Celtics, former Tennessee Volunteer product Grant Williams mentioned Golden State’s former Defensive Player of the Year.
When Williams was asked about a moment that made him “pinch himself” during his rookie season, the former SEC Player of the Year spoke about the first time he lined up against Green. According to Williams, Green was one of his favorite players when he was in high school and college.

I think that was more so Draymond [Green]. I think everyone knows when I was going through high school and college, he was my favorite player. So, when the first time I ever wanted to be in that role, it was definitely a moment for me the first time I played against him for the first time. I’ve met him before, so playing against him was unique, but every other guy is just a competitor to me. And I’m like, ‘Okay, I just want to take on the challenge.’ So, no matter who I was playing, there’s a bunch of names — Giannis [Antetokounmpo], Pascal [Siakam], those guys — I’m like ‘I’m playing against them, cool. Let’s just compete and get this win.’ It was definitely an interesting time.

In two games against Green and the Warriors, Williams averaged three points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field with four rebounds, two assists and 1.5 steals in 16 minutes per contest.
With Curry and Thompson expected to be fully healthy for the start of next season, Williams will get a full dose of Golden State’s lineup in his sophomore year in the NBA.
