The lone wolf out? Matthew Wolff himself, who withdrew and did not give the PGA Tour a reason for his decision.
The only other golfer who is eligible and did not commit to play? Two-time Players winner, Tiger Woods, who suffered severe leg injuries in a car wreck last month.
The tournament will allow 20% of the usual number of fans it permits. Tickets for the event are sold out.
Rory McIlroy won here in 2019 and is the defending champion after last year’s tournament was cancelled following the first round, due to COVID-19.
The purse for the 2021 Players Championship is $15 million (the largest of any golf tournament), with the winner receiving over two million dollars
